2009 Message from the Bristol Fire Department
Eric Dey, Fire Chief
(From the 2009 newsletter)

The Bristol Volunteer Fire Department responded to approximately 150 fire calls and 170 requests for ambulance service in 2008

Our fire dept. team has over 40 members who dedicate literally thousands of hours collectively in terms of required annual training and continuing education classes and actual emergency calls serving the Bristol residents.

The BVFD was successful in obtaining two grants in 2009. A $15,000 homeland security grant which will be used for the purchase of training equipment and a washer/extractor for washing turn out gear. Also we were awarded a $1,000 grant from NYS DEC for the purchase of wild land protective gear and equipment to safely equip our members for wild land fire season.

We have developed in partnership with the Town Code Enforcement Officer, a house sign identification program. The signs come in two colors, green for standard construction and red for light weight construction. These are critical in helping us find a house in an emergency. For more information on this important program, contact the town Code Enforcement Officer or the Bristol Fire Chief

We are always looking for new members, if interested in becoming a member of our team, stop by the fire station any Monday night at 7 PM.

Safety tips:
  • Keep fire hydrants near your property clear of heavy snow in winter months
  • Notify the Fire Chief or Fire Marshal of any planned controlled burns
  • Never start a fire with gasoline
  • Have a home evacuation plan
  • Have your chimney cleaned annually
