The Bristol Volunteer Fire Department now has a new website. The address is:

Check out this great site to learn everything you ever wanted to know about our fire department and their latest activities and events.

2008 Message from the Bristol Fire Department
Eric Dey, Fire Chief
(From the 2008 newsletter)

The Bristol Volunteer Fire Department responded to approximately 140 fire calls and 180 requests for the ambulance in 2007.

The Department consists of over 40 active members who dedicate thousands of hours collectively for our community both in training and actual emergency calls.

Nine new members joined our team in 2007/2008. Our team is made up of firefighters, EMY's and fire police. We lso have members on specialized county teams such as hazmat, rope rescue, swift water rescue, and New York State fire wardens. Our team benefits greatly from the knowledge gained by these members,

Recently our department was awarded a $4500 grant from New York State which was used to purchase protective equipment for our members to them safe while protecting the community.

We've been working with the Town Code Enforcement Officer on a house identification sign project. These signs come in two colors - green and red. Green is for standard construction and red is for lightweight construction. These signs are critical to aid us in locating a house in an emergency. Please contact us for details on this program.
We are always looking for new members. If you're interested, stop by the firehouse on Route 64 any Monday night at 7 PM.

SAFETY TIPS:
  • Make sure your house number is visible from the road.
  • Change the batteries in your smoke detectors and CO detectors.
  • Have your chimney cleaned.
  • Notify the Fire Chief of any planned controlled burns (bonfires).
  • NEVER use gasoline to start a fire!
  • Keep fire hydrants near or on your property clear of ice and snow.

Bristol Volunteer Fire Department - Help Needed!
(From the 2008 newsletter)

The Bristol Volunteer Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the Town of Bristol, encompassing 36 square miles and a population of about 2500. We also provide fire protection to small portions of Canandaigua and South Bristol.

The BVFD is all volunteer, meaning there is no paid staff on duty at any time. We are dispatched by the Ontario County 911 Center and respond from our homes, places of employment, or wherever we happen to be when a call is dispatched. We are alerted via pagers, although we have home receivers and the firehouse siren as back-up systems.

Emergency medical services are provided at no charge to the residents of Bristol. Over the past several years, the BVFD has worked very hard to continue to provide free ambulance service on an around-the-clock basis with a dwindling volunteer staff. This is an almost daily struggle to find drivers and Emergency Medical Technitions (EMTs) to ensure emergency medical coverage to the Town. The alternative to a volunteer ambulance service in Bristol is a paid ambulance service which typically charges several hundred dollars per transport.

We need your help! We need volunteers for both day and night coverage. We need additional EMTs to augment our current volunteer staff and continue providing a free BLS ambulance service to the Town.

If you would like to continue to receive this free service, or make a difference in someone's life, please seriously consider joining the BVFD team. We will provide all the training needed. You can visit our new website,
www.bristolvfd.com, for more information on who we are and what we do. You'll also find an on-line application form; print it, fill it out and either drop it off in person or mail it to the firehouse. We hope to hear from you!
