A Message From the Fire Marshal
Mark Francese, Fire Marshal
(From the 2007 Bristol Newsletter)

Here we are at the start of another winter season; this is a great time to start thinking about your wood stoves and smoke detectors. The first thing you should do is change the batteries in your smoke detectors and make sure they are all in working order. Smoke detectors should be installed in every bedroom in your house. There should be at least one smoke detector on every level of your house. A carbon monoxide detector is recommended whether you have a furnace, a wood stove, or both.

Before you light your first fire this year, you should have your chimney cleaned and inspect your stove pipe for any defects or leaks. It is also a good idea to have a working ABC fire extinguisher close to your wood stove. Remember, all wood stove installations and vent free fire places require a permit from the building department located in the Town Hall. An inspection by the Fire Marshal is required as well to prevent incident and insure public safety. To schedule an inspection contact me at 585-229-2400 or 585-319-0215.
