A Message From the Fire Marshal
Phil Sommer, Fire Marshal
(From the 2009 Bristol Newsletter)

Fall is here and the cool nights are starting. Take the time to clean and inspect your chimneys before starting that first fire, Once again we had several chimney fires in our town last year. Anyone thinking of installing a wood pellet, or coal stove will need to do the following:
Obtain a permit from the Code Officer prior to installation followed by Fire Marshal inspection before use.

Make sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Change your batteries twice a year and keep a working fire extinguisher by your heating appliances. Remember that smoke and carbon monoxide detectors don't last forever. If older than 5 years they should be replaced for your safety.

House signs need to be visible from the road for emergency crews with at least 4 inch high numbers. These can be obtained free of charge from the code officer at the Town Hall. Have a safe year, and if you have any questions call 229-2440.
